Research, Consulting & Public Service

Alliant's schools and centers share a common philosophy: professionals can and should make as much a difference as humanly possible in the lives of individuals, families, schools, organizations, companies and nations. That philosophy goes hand-in-hand with a style of teaching that marries academic learning with mentored field practice, one that enables our students to make important contributions to both their emerging careers and the lives of those around them.

Involved & Active Faculty

Because Alliant is a "professional practice university," many faculty members are scholar-practitioners, who have active professional practices, run consulting businesses or community centers in addition to teaching.

The links to the right will lead to you to information about many of the consultancies, community centers and business endeavors in which our Alliant students, faculty and staff  members work.

Student Recognition

Our students are constantly winning competitive internships, scholarships and recognition for their research, service and writing. For news about their latest kudos, please click here.

Each year, Alliant students provide over 575,000 unpaid public service hours to the communities around their campuses. Alliant and faculty members provide many thousands of hours, many of them partially paid or volunteer hours.

Field Placement & Internships Make a Difference

Most Alliant degree programs have a field placement component which enables students to develop hands-on skills in their chosen profession, while simultaneously being mentored and advised by both their professors and their on-the-job supervisors. This not only allows the student to begin to build a valuable network of professional contacts and makes Alliant graduates prized employees because of their ability to hit the ground running in a new job, it also benefits underserved communities by giving them access to low-cost (and volunteer) experts in areas such as teaching, business consulting organizational development, and marriage and family therapy.
