History of GSOEIn July 2000, Dr. Karen S. Webb established a systemwide graduate school of education for Alliant International University. After much work, GSOE received its accreditation in the summer of 2001 for the teacher credential program from CCTC, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Since then GSOE merged with the United States International University (USIU) School of Education already established in San Diego. Today the school has almost five hundred students. GSOE offers courses in San Francisco, Fresno, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, Mexico City (Mexico) and at the Ohlone Community College in Fremont, California. Focus on applied psychology and cross-cultural studies Our aim is to thoroughly prepare students to become educational leaders. With that in mind, what sets GSOE apart is its very conscious infusion of applied psychology in all of its programs. The education is grounded in current neuropsychology research. This gives our students the advantage of knowing how and why people learn, develop and grow. It also gives them the practical tools to help their students learn more effectively. We are dedicated to teaching in the community using a holistic approach to education that includes diversity at every level. This means that we incorporate the needs of the entire educational environment, not just the administrative needs or the school psychology needs, for example. Multicultural and global education is a current that runs strongly throughout our curriculum. We know that it is essential that our educational environment embody diversity so that our students will be well prepared for the multicultural settings in which they will be teaching or working. |
